Whenever I setup any new wordpress site, here’s the list of plugins I install (in the order below) -

Maintenance Mode - You need this first because you do not want visitors to see your site creation in action
NoSpamNX – A very good comment spam blocker, must install immediately
WP Smush.it – Have all your photos “smashed” to reduce file size
W3 Total Cache – Good caching plugin for speed.
WP-Optimize - Nice plugin to clean up while you are busy saving draft posts and adding junk to your site
Widget Logic - Indispensable plugin to enable/disable plugins based on your own moody logic
WP Greet Box - A nice and humble way to greet your visitors
Add Post URL – To add cool blurbs before/after every posts
Contact Form 7 – A must have for “Contact Me” pages
Exec-PHP – Not very useful for a beginner site setup, but indispensable for custom widgets/dynamic page creations
Favicon Generator – If you are too lazy to create your own Favicon using a standalone program
My Category Order – Useful with Suffusion theme to order the categories in the dropdown
My Link Order – Same as above except useful for ordering links
My Page Order – Again this is for ordering pages
Short URL Generator – Required for using the short url for auto-tweeting or creating a link to allow visitors (re)tweet
Subscribe To Comments – Cool nifty install-and-forget plugin that allows stalking visitors to get email notification when someone posts comments
Top 10 – Displays “Most … posts” Good for sidebar widgets as popularity meter
fbLikeButton - If you do not want to be left alone
TweetMeme Retweet Button – Allows visitors to re-tweet using an inviting button
Where did they go from here – Amazon-like recommendations… “visitors viewed the following links from this page”
WP-PostRatings – Allows users to rate posts and then show top rated posts in the sidebar
WP-Print – Allows users to get a printer friendly page
YOURLS: WordPress to Twitter – Great way to automate tweeting your posts to tweeter
Advertising Manager - Only if monetizing is one of the purpose

You stand outside a room which is thoroughly sealed and insulated. Externally, in front of you, there are three switches: only one of these turns the light on inside the room, while the other two do not work.

You must discover which is the working switch. You may make as many attempts as you want with the external switches, but you may enter the room only once to check your supposition. What would you do?
